Lunch plans? Your Christmas Day 2023 weather forecast is here

Joy to the world – it's looking like (mostly) clear skies.

Do you have plans for a festive outdoor palooza this Christmas? Well, we’ve got some good news and bad news for you depending on what city you live in. It looks like the weather has decided to rain on Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Darwin’s parade. According to AccuWeather, the weather forecast for December 25 is looking merry and bright for Melbourne, Perth, Canberra.

Here’s what the 2023 weather forecast currently looks like across Australia’s major cities.

SYDNEY

For December 25 the AccuWeather is predicting tops of 26 degrees with a little morning rain and some clouds. It looks like Boxing Day will be better weather, reaching 24 degrees and mostly sunny. The week leading up to Christmas will be touch-and-go for festive outdoor gatherings for Sydneysiders, with rain predicted for December 20, 21 and Christmas Eve.

MELBOURNE

Christmas Day’s forecast is steamy reaching tops of 26 degrees and will be a little cloudy, with no rain predicted. Boxing Day will reach 23 degrees with some clouds hanging around. Hallelujah! But Melburnians will need to have a wet weather plan in place for outdoor gatherings this December leading up to Christmas as it is looking to be rainy, with showers and/or storms predicted for 4 days throughout the month before Christmas.

ADELAIDE

The final month of 2023 in Adelaide is looking to be sun-filled – which is great news for Christmas parties. The clear weather unfortunately will not stick around for Christmas Day, which is forecasted to reach 27 degrees with a morning shower in spots and a little rain in the afternoon. Boxing Day will hit 26 degrees and be partly sunny.

BRISBANE

Christmas Day in Brisbane will be hot, but wet. It’s predicted that December 25 will hit 29 degrees, with a little rain throughout the day. Boxing Day will be slightly cooler, reaching 27 degrees with lots of sun. Did someone say beach sesh?

PERTH

Perth residents will be happy to hear that December is set to be sunny, Christmas Day. Temperatures are expected to reach 27 degrees on December 25. With temps cooling on December 26 as its forecasted to be 25 degrees and sunny.

HOBART

It will be a little cooler in Hobart on Christmas Day. It’s predicted to be overcast and will reach 21 degrees. The silver lining? No rain is predicted for December 25 and 26.

CANBERRA

Set your table up outside Canberrans. Christmas Day is looking to be a warm 27 degrees with some cloud cover. It will be cooling on Boxing Day, reaching temperatures of 25 degrees and will be overcast.

DARWIN

Darwin is looking to be quite wet. December 25 will be a hot one, with tops of 34 degrees predicated, but will be foreshadowed by periods of rain and thunderstorms. We recommend you pack a brolly if you plan on moving around throughout the day.

So set the table up outdoors. Fire up the barbecue. Or, as the weather forecast is as up and down as Colin Fassnidge’s temper, stick to your al fresco plans and make a last minute switch if it all goes pear shaped.
